***NEW*** - Downloadable GPS Files

For most ride from September 2013 onwards you will see links to 2 downloadable  GPS files, one in GPX format and one in KML format

1.  To use the GPX files click the link and then when prompted save the file to your computer with a name of your choice and upload the file to your GPS, These types of file will work with Garmin and most other GPS systems. Note:- these files will not open properly in Google Earth, use the KML files instead.

2. To use the KML files click the link and if you have Google Earth installed on your computer click open and Google Earth will open showing the route on the map, where you can also use street view for a virtual tour of the ride. Or alternatively you can save the file and open it later.

If you don't have Google Earth why not try it its free to install just google it, and see where you've been or where you could have been!

8th Anniversary Ride
Our special day was thrown into confusion by the weather. We had arranged a few weeks ago to repeat last years anniversary celebration by having a full english breakfast at La Vista in Medina Sidonia. However Heavy rain on the morning of the ride meant we had to take the decision to go there by car ( except for 3 hardy members of the club) Still there was a good turnout of members and their wives and a good time was had by all. By the time we had finished it had stopped raining and the sun had come out!! A pity really as we could have ridden after all.

El Presidente Brian's 80th Birthday ride - Barrio Jarana and San Fernando
A fitting ride for our first club member and Honorary President who reached the milestone birthday this weekend. A two stop ride so we could time our return to Casa Blas for when Brian's family arrived for the party. Calling at the bikers venta at Barrio Jarana for coffee and then on the cycle track to San Fernando and the town hall square for yet another coffee. All the time Brian hadn't got a clue about the surprise that awaited him. Returning via the Marismas in San Fernado and then the track along the side of the tram to Chiclana, and finally continuing through town to Pago and Casa Blas. There was about 28 of us there at the venta. Brian's family had laid on a lovely spread and Brian was suitably gobsmacked by it all. Our leader Barrie presented El President with two engraved brandy glasses and a bottle of the finest french brandy as a small momento of the occasion. All in all it was a very enjoyable day.

By the time we had finished our breakfast the rain was coming down quite heavily and the decision was taken to cut the ride short and head back the way we came as fast as possible. We stopped half way to see if the rain was going to stop but there was no sign of it easing up so we headed out again and back to Venta Rayo. The barbecue in the corner was lit so we all crowded round that trying to dry out. after a couple of drinks we packed our bikes up and headed home grateful that we very rarely get wet rides.

This weeks ride took place on Monday due to heavy rain on Sunday. A long challenging ride and quite a change from our usual outings. Leaving Casa Blas and heading through town to pick up the track at the Aldi roundabout, and following the track to San Fernando before skirting the town to the Bahia Sur Shopping Centre. We then took the track from the car park there which leads all the way to Cadiz along the side of the main train line to the city. Working our way through the outskirts to the promenade on the east side of the peninsular we had our coffee stop at a busy Venta right near the the new bridge. The return journey took us round the headland and along the the road at the side of the Cadiz beach before finally joining the main road to San Fernando for a few km. Relieved to get off the road we went through the salinas before joining the cycle track all through San Fernando and back to the track we came on back to Chiclana and a final stop for drinks in town. Continuing along the road and then on to La Florida to Venta Ramirez, and then to the outskirts of Conil and and along the road to El Palmar for coffee. A couple of our riders had decided to take the track to El Palmar and by the time we got to the coffee stop one of them had the first of 3 punctures caused by thorns on the track. After coffee we took the road to the roundabout at the bottom of the road to Vejer , and on to the quite hamlet of Santa Lucia where we had been told they did an excellent egg and chips. This turned out to be a bit of a disappointment as it wasn't even as good as at Blas's. Mark spent all the lunchtime mending his punctures! After lunch we made our way back via the N340 and all headed back by seperate routes home. Mark rode the last 10km with a flat tyre having run out of spare tubes! Still we all had a good time but decided we would never use that particular track near El Palmar again!
