PPP Christmas Party - La Muela
This weeks ride was moved to Saturday to allow more of our members to attend. Leaving Venta Blas and up the Pago road to pick up La Florida road at the Los Naveros motorway junction. At the Venta Ramirez area we went down the hill to the N340 and stopped at a nearby venta for mid morning coffee. After coffee we made our way along the N340 to the La Muela turn and up the hill to Venta Rufino for a well earned tapas  and lunch. We returned the same way this time against the wind and made our way home after a really enjoyable day. - Click to view Photo's

Weather cold first thing today, so we decided on a short ride to San Fernando centre for coffee at the main town  square. All the Christmas decorations are in place so quite festive there. Conil Beach
This week we intended to try something different by way of riding along the beach at low tide from Conil to El Palmar for coffee. After riding to the beach at the far end of Conil we found it difficult to get across to the hard sand because of wind and extensive water trapped behind sandbanks, so we decided to go along the beach the other way. After an exhilarating ride along the waters edge we stopped for a coffee at a beach bar. The route back followed the coast as closely as possible via roads and cliff edge tracks back to Casa Blas for drinks.

San Ambrosio - Trafalgar
An away day ride starting from the car park at the beach at Conil, The first port of call was to be El Palmar and some riders went via a new track that we had found the rest going along the road as usual. Unfortunately the track caused a lot of problems with thorns and the track riders suffered 4 punctures which delayed us somewhat. Continuing along the coast road we took the track on the left to take us to the Pigeon hotel at San Ambrosio for coffee. Suitably refreshed we took the road and towards Trafalgar eventually coming down the hill which has spectacular views of the coast and Trafalgar point and back to the coast road. We made good speed on final leg back to Conil as the wind was behind us and we stopped at the Chiringuito on the beach where a few of the wives joined us for drinks.

7th Anniversary Ride - Medina Sidonia
To celebrate the PPP's 7th anniversary we decided to ride to La Vista restaurant at the top of Medina Sidonia for a breakfast/lunch. Starting from Casa Blas as usual and up the Pago road to meet other riders who were waiting for us at Venta La Raya. Our route then was to continue past the motorway junction and follow the road for 15km to Los Naveros. After leaving Los Naveros we headed along the road towards Medina eventually passing the microlight aerodrome and up to the main road. A quick right then left and past Venta Duchesa on our way to Medina. By this time and looking at the hill in front of us some of us were wishing we had decided to go to Venta Duchesa for our celebratory meal!! After plodding on up the hill which is quite a climb right up to near the top we finally reached the La Vista restaurant. A lovely full english breakfast was laid on for us and we all agreed they had done us proud. by the time we had finished we didnt feel much like riding but at least it was down hill from there for a while. Getting to the bottom of Medina via the ring road we retraced our steps back To the Venta Los Naveros for drinks. The final push back to Venta La Raya was tiring but we all agreed it had been a tremendous way of celebrating our 7th birthday. - Click to view Photo's

V11 Ruta Ciclista El Marquesado
Something different this week, we heard of a community cycle ride starting from Marquesado. These types of rides are an opportunity to meet other (mainly Spanish) cyclists and enjoy a ride on tracks that are usually closed to the general public. Starting from Association de Vecinos in El Marquesado near Venta Parada in Marquesado heading down the track to the Chacona turn and on to the normally closed track up to Cortijo Guerra high up in the hills above Marquesado. After 'refreshments' we returned the same route and back to base where a good spread of Tortilla , peppers, paella, potatoes, dressings, mince and fillets together with free beer had been included in our €10 entrance charge. Altogether a very enjoyable day out. - Click to View Photo's

With the mid day temperatures now around the high 30 degrees mark, we are shortening our rides and starting earlier to avoid the peak daytime temperatures. This was another away day ride starting near the San José del Valle area. The ride was mainly on quiet rural roads and going through stunning scenery taking in a reservoir with mountain views behind and the villages of Junta de Los Rios and La Barca de Florida. Unfortunately when we got back to the start point the Venta was shut so we headed back to Casa Blas for refreshments.

Cadiz
This weeks long ride was held on Thursday  to avoid the crowds at weekend in Cadiz.
An Interesting Ride with 3 start points. The riders from Casa Blasheaded from Pago down to Chiclana and across town to Aldi car park  where other riders were waiting. We then headed on via the track at the side of the new tramway to San Fernando where we were surprised to spot a tram at the Tres Camino's station near San Fernando. Heading round the town to Bahia Sur for our final pick-up point. The track to Cadiz starts from the car park at the shopping centre and runs along the causeway to the penisular at Cadiz. We were pleasantly surprised to find that the track had been resurfaced and is now much better than the pot holed track that was there before. Our coffee stop was In the Botanical gardens, but as we headed round to the old part of Cadiz we stopped in the Tapas market for a snack. Continuing round the penisular of Cadiz and back  down the causeway to the bridge over the motorway and onto the track to return to Casa Blas for drinks.

Rather a dull day for todays ride and sticking to roads because of heavy rain the last two days we met at Casa Blas as usual. Starting towards town we had to go further round to the Medina road because Wet Lane was closed due to the flooding. The ride was straight up the road to Medina Sidonia for coffee and tostada at the lovely Venta just off the roundabout at the bottom of Medina. Suitably refreshed we headed back the same way with just a slight detour through El Burreco. Some of the riders decided to take 'a short cut' via a track and were rewarded with ankle deep mud and water.
