Los Naveros
An Interesting if quiet ride today with two of our most talkative riders not able to ride this week. Starting from Casa Blas we took the Pago road past Venta Raya and onto the turn for the motorway junction. Continuing along the road to Los Naveros was quite challenging with the wind against us and the hills along the way. Arriving at Los Naveros we stopped for coffee at the Venta in the centre of the village. Leaving Los Naveros on the cañada which goes all the way back to Pago. We have been down the cañada several times and noticed a model aircraft club at the side of the track but have never noticed much activity there. Today was different, there were probably a hundred or so people there and about 20 radio controlled planes of varying sizes from about 1m wingspan to up to about 3m! Intrigued to see some of the action we waited for a while and were stunned by what we saw when the models took to the air. The first two were model fighter planes complete with minature jet engines. the speed and manoeuvrability was fantastic as they went through an acrobatic display worthy of any full size airshow with loops, vertical ascents and upside down flying all part of the programs. Finally we watched a 1930's type single seat plane which simulated a display similar to the Red Bull aerobatic team, some of the moves were jaw dropping and seemed to defy gravity. All in all a very enjoyable experience which we were lucky to have come across. Finally we headed off to the Cazodores for drinks.

Puerto Real and San Fernando
Starting from Casa Blas as usual, through town via the cycle track past the athletics stadium and then onto the Mcdonalds roundabout and up to Eroskis to pick up the back road to Marquesado. Past the second pick up point a Venta Parada and then onto Barrio Jarana via La Chacona. After leaving Barrio Jarana we continued on the road and through the grounds at Puerto Real Hospital to pick up the Puerto Real/Paterna road. Past Henrys Bar and onto Puerto Real where we intended to search out the main square for coffee. Eventually finding the square to say we were disappointed would be an understatement so we then decided to go to the sea front for coffee.
After coffee we decided to go back via San Fernando so left Puerto Real on the track at the side of the railway branching off on the track to San Fernando. Threading our way though San Fernando to pick up the track back to Chiclana that runs along the side of the tramway. Back through town and on to Venta Cazadores for drinks.

La Via Verde - Puerto Serrano to Olvera
Special 6th Anniversary ride to La Via Verde de la Sierra - One of most beautiful Via Verdes in Spain. It was voted as the best Greenway in Europe in 2009 - Click here for more info
We with El Presidente have just celebrated our sixth birthday with a ride at La Via Verde. El Presidente and Donal chose to ride half of the ride starting at Olvera, as it turned out that was a good decision on their part as the full ride started at Puerto Serrano with strong headwinds, the outward ride is the hilliest and with strong headwinds put us to the test; sporting our new team kit nothing would stop us from having a great day. When we arrived at Olvera we met up with El Presidente, Donal and their spouses as the Ventas at the finish were closed we made the steep hike to the square in Olvera, the girls had sourced a lovely Venta for lunch, after a great lunch of a variety of tapas, liquid refreshment and photos we set off again with a tail wind and more downhill on the way back we made record time. The girls were there to great us with big smiles and congratulations on our achievement. Some of us returned home and others stayed in the lovely hotel at the start of the ride in Puerto Serrano. - Click to view Photo's

Turning left at the end of the track we went through the Ferria ground and on to the cycle track before taking the trail through the Marismas. Continuing on the cycle track to the Visitor centre near the beach for coffee. Starting from Casa Blas we headed down into to town and along the cycle track by the sports stadiums. Turning right and up the bridge to pick up the cañada up into the hills above Marquesado. After dropping down back on the the main road at the Chacona turn we took the track through the woods to the Paterna/Puerto Real road. After a swift 6km down the road we reached our coffee stop at Henry's Bar. Suitably refreshed we headed back down the road for a couple of hundred metres before taking the track on the right past Puerto Real Hospital and on to Barrio Jarana. Foloowing the yellow brick road and past Cadiz FC training ground then on to the Marquesado road all the way back to Pago and well earned drinks at Venta Cazadores. Even though we are into September now this was one of the hottest days of the year being nearly 39deg when we got back to the venta, so the first 2 pints didn't touch the sides!

San Ambrosio
The group set off from hotel Antonio in Colorado heading towards Conil  avoiding the n340 where possible and skirting around the town onto the ca-2144/ a2233 towards El Palmar. We kept on the tarmac road before turning on the track towards our destination. This was a steady incline for 8km or 9km as we climbed towards the summit at the pueblo San Ambrosio. A little further on we arrived at our destination, the hotel el Paloma de la Brena, where we stopped for coffee, toast and water. By now the temperature had risen to over 30°c !
The ride home was much easier as we passed by Los Caños de Meca and the faro at Trafalger heading towards Conil where we travelled off road back to hotel Antonio and some shandies.

Quite an eventful ride which started from Los Naveros (although a couple of riders started from Venta Raya or further) After leaving Los Naveros by a minor road after about 4 kilometres we joined the main Medina Benelup road. Stopping at La Cabralla Venta for a quick coffee then joining the track to the base of Medina. Turning right at Casa Duchesa restauarant we were not looking forward to the climb up to the main square in Medina. Eventually we got to the top and as we entered the square we were met by the sound of a brass band tuning up. It turned out they were rehearsing for the Santa Semana Easter Parades. Just as they had left the square on their march the peace was broken by the sound of police sirens followed by a parade of probably over a hundred motorcyclists of all types from Harleys to old Vespa scooters. after about 10 mins we were able to hear ourselves speak again and enjoy the rest of our coffee break. We left Medina by the same route and then turned right then left past the small aerodrome and back to Los Naveros for drinks.

San Fernando
What started off as a routine easy ride to San Fernando turned out to be quite an interesting day. We set off from Casa Blas and headed through town to the second start point at Eroski's car park. There were no other riders to join us, but there was a group of about 20 dog walkers. It turned out to be Javier the local dog trainer on his usual Sunday walk which is open to anyone with a pooch who wants to join in.  After chatting to him and some of the other walkers we continued the ride along the track at the side of the new tramway to San Fernando. As we went along the cycle track through San Fernando we noticed what appeared to be a new nature trail through the nearby salinas. We decided to ask one of the locals using the trail where it went. The first person we asked did not know because the were on the trail for the first time, but it tuerned out they were from Pago and were neighbours with english people that we knew. What a small world. A cyclist then approached, and as we asked him about the trail he offered to lead us along the track. His name was Julio and not only did he lead us round the salinas to rejoin the cycle track he also took us to a different trail through another salinas which looped round to the main Cadiz road and back. We said our goodbyes to Julio at a local venta and had our coffee stop. The return journey was much more routine and eventually stopped for drinks at Venta Pinarillo.
