Conil - Fishing Port
A different ride today starting with a full english breakfast at the Venta Raya first. Then off down the track at the back of the Venta skirting El Colorado and through Roche to the cliff top path and on to Conil Port for coffee. Return by road and track past Venta Ramirez and down La Florida to a new Venta on the top of the hill back to the motorway junction near Pago. Unfortunately when we arrived at the Venta, we found that it was basically a scrapyard in the middle of a farmyard with hardly any facilities. To make things worse they were in the middle of being closed down by the Guardia, after waiting about 15 mins to be served a drink, we made our getaway back to the sanity of Venta Raya for beers.

Cadiz
An Interesting Ride with 3 start points. The riders from Casa Blas headed from Pago down to Chiclana and across town to Eroski's where they picked up the riders meeting there. We then headed on via the track at the side of the new tramway to San Fernando and round the town to Bahia Sur for our final pick-up point. The track to Cadiz starts from the car park at the shopping centre and runs along the causeway to the penisular at Cadiz. Threading our way all round the old city of Cadiz we then stopped for coffee at the botanical gardens. Suitably refreshed we carried on round the city and along the road by the beach, eventually picking up the main road back to Chiclana. Luckily we only had to ride a couple of km on the main road before crossing the bridge and back on the track to Bahia Sur and then retrcaing our steps back to Chiclana and drinks in the town.

5th Anniversary Celebration Away Days

To celebrate the occasion we decided to take a short break in a finca near to the village of Pruna and use this as a base for the proposed rides.

The first challange was to find the place, the second to navigate the rough track to it without bottoming and damaging the cars.

The acomodation was described as a Casa Rural which is really an euphemism for basic. Once over the initial shock, it wasn't too bad with a menangerie of farm animals to keep us entertained. After unpacking we set off for the first ride. It was fairly late in the afternoon so we went by car to the start point in Olvera, the terminus of the old  Olvera to Puente Serrano railway, the Via Verde. Weather was excellent, riders were prepared with torches  for the 17 tunnels of the Via up to Coripe station. This Via is one of the 7 best rides in Andalucia, and did not disappoint. The views were really outstanding, especially the sight of the Griffin vultures circulating above the hill tops. The only disapointment was that the restaurant at Coripe was shut so we did not have the usual coffee break. The return route has a steady gradient which helped generate a healthy appetite. A total of 43km was covered.

Whilst we had been away enjoying ourselves, 2 members of the party, Pat and Pam had been slaving over a hot barbeque and oven preparing an excellent evening meal for us all.

It was the  intention to complete the via verde from Coripe to Puente Serrano the next morning, however, perhaps because of the late night previous, and being rather warm the following morning, we decided to pospone this ride for an other time. Instead we made a lakeside stop at Bornos where we had refreshments overlooking a very pretty lake.

All in all a very enjoyable trip - Click to view Photo's

Sun 19th AprMalcocinado
A long hilly ride starting from Casa Blas or Venta Los Naveros. Heading out of Pago we went along the Pago road towards the motorway junction turn and continued along the road to Los Naveros to meet the starters from there. Leaving Los Naveros we went along the back road to the Medina, Benelup, Vejer road and along there to near Venta Cabrala. Just before the venta we picked up the track which took us onto Malconcinado for coffee at Venta Negro. After the break we headed out on the track back towards Los Naveros eventually coming to the road that back to the village. The riders going back to Pago then split off on a track and after a costly 8km detour caused by missing a turn onto another track we eventually came back onto the road from Los Naveros to Pago and back to Venta Raya for Drinks.

Robert's witty and musical take on the ride.

We left Pago heading towards Los Naveros. As Dianne was not there it was pretty quiet so we had a little sing song to liven things up.
First we started with the Beatles Long and Winding Road where we met up with Andy and Brian. From los Naveros we continued to climb. Someone started singing Climb every Mountain, quickly followed by Top Guns Take my Breathe away.
On reaching Mal Cocinado we had a well deserved coffee at the Venta Negra. We then continued on to las Cantarranas before turning back along a track towards Naveros/ Pago. I thought that I heard Barrie humming Lost in France, but I could have been mistaken. By now we were all getting a little tired.  Brian started whistling I wish that I could Fly to no avail.
Del  wanted to know the words to the Beatles song Running on Empty, but no one could remember.
Finally Barrie said how about finishing off with 24 hrs from Tulsa. We replied that 24k from Pago was far enough, so we settled for S&G's Homeward Bound.
Those that were still able to walk/ride finished the day slumped in the chairs at the Venta Raya enjoying a well deserved drink.
Next Thursday we will be continuing our  training for the Iron man race.
